ARC Advisory Group’s
seventeenth India Forum (July 4-5, 2019) for the process and discrete
industries was hosted in Bangalore, India. This year’s India
Forum Driving Digital Transformation in Industry and Cities
attracted over 270 delegates.
This two-day forum
was structured to disseminate information and technology effectively
and provide end users, solution providers and decision-makers an
opportunity to network and get an overall view of the market and its
requirements. Presentations revolved around how companies are
digitalizing business processes, the digital journey, and where they
are on the digital maturity curve. Emphasis was on the importance of
seamless convergence between information technology (IT), operational
technology (OT), and engineering technology (ET) on the plant
floor. In 2019 we see further acceleration of the IT/OT/ET
convergence to support the ongoing digital transformation of industries
and cities.
Growing Deployment of Solutions that Combine Cloud and Edge Computing
Given the
increasing convergence of information technology (IT) and operational
technology (OT) and today’s emphasis on digital transformation,
manufacturers must focus on deploying computing resources where it
makes the most sense to do so on an application-to-application
basis. A simultaneous approach that utilizes both cloud and edge
solutions have emerged to enable industrial organizations to distribute
computing resources more broadly. By combining both edge and cloud
technologies, industrial and infrastructure organizations can provide
the appropriate personnel with actionable information to support
real-time business decisions.
