Every month there is a blizzard of information contained in the emails that cross my desk on their way to AutomatedBuildings.com. Some of this information is not in the form of any type of content we can publish but I feel I should share with you these snippets, blog bits, and url links that are about to fall off my desktop.

Top predictions for the cloud computing industry in 2010.
“In 2009 we saw a lot of large enterprises get their feet wet with cloud
computing. They were testing the waters and trying to figure out a model that
fits for the way they operate. In 2010 we will see a lot more projects kick off
and the growth of private clouds in major companies. Thankfully the hype cycle
of cloud computing has faded. Now the real adoption of this exciting technology
in the enterprise can finally begin,” said Stuart Charlton, CTO at Elastra.

An Operating System for 'The Internet of Things'
It was developed jointly by several research and commercial organisations
including the Swedish Institute for Computer Science (SICS), the Technical
University of Munich, SAP, Cisco and the semiconductor manufacturer
ATMEL. ... These devices are the enablers of the smart grid, smart
cities, home and building automation, asset tracking and utility
metering. Connecting these smart objects is a major issue and IP would appear to
be by far the most suitable protocol.

Power Paper, an Infinity Group portfolio company, and GE Global Research, the technology development arm for the General Electric Company, announced today that the companies have signed an agreement to jointly develop self-powered OLED lighting devices. Using low-cost, high-volume manufacturing processes, these devices could be deployed in a wide variety of environments from military ships to night-time jogging vests. The collaboration is supported by an Israel-U.S. Binational Industrial Research and Development Foundation (BIRD Foundation) program.
