ASHRAE/IES
90.1-2010 energy standard gets tough The
ASHRAE/IES 90.1-2010 energy standard, adopted as an energy code in many
jurisdictions
in the U.S., contains comprehensive requirements for lighting controls,
part of
a dramatic revision intended to make it 30% more energy-efficient than

Can
BACnet and LonTalk Work Together? The short
answer is "yes," but there are some important factors to consider:
Eight definitions of ‘smart buildings’
So what exactly are “smart buildings”? The simple answer is
that there’s automation involved somehow that makes managing and
operating buildings more efficient. Pinning down an exact definition,
though, isn’t easy in a sector that’s evolving so quickly. Here’s how
various organisations define — for better or for much worse — “smart
buildings”:
Build a BACnet compliant specification, online, free

As most of you
already know, S4
puts a lot of effort into building relationships with each of the BAS
manufacturers, and their dealer or branch network, to make sure that
our
systems work well together and the delivery of support to mutual
customers is
seamless. Performing interoperability testing is part of that process.
During
our testing with Alerton
Envision it became evident that their BACnet Client implementation
took
a different approach to discovering and mapping points for BACnet
devices than
we saw in most other BACnet clients. Envision uses a model based on
pre-defined
templates for BACnet devices instead of a point level discovery process
that we
most frequently see.
