New Battery-Operated Detector Functions as Standalone Safety Device or Uses Wireless Receiver to Integrate with Any Central Alarm System
LAS VEGAS. (April 3, 2008) – Linear LLC, an innovator in home technology solutions for security, communications and entertainment, will demonstrate its new RF-based carbon monoxide detector in booth 21035 at the ISC West security conference this week. The new DXS-80 is the first UL-listed, battery-operated CO detector with a built-in RF transmitter offered for residential use. The DXS-80 sounds an alarm when it detects dangerous CO levels, and by using the Linear DX receiver it can be integrated into most third-party manufacturers’ alarm systems, so it can summon help in case of an emergency.
“This new wireless CO detector is a welcome addition to our growing line of security products,” said Gary Baker, Vice President of Marketing for Linear LLC. “It’s ideal for tough-to-wire environments, since it can be installed virtually anywhere, and it can function as a standalone device or part of an integrated alarm system. It’s an ideal addition to any security dealer’s product offering.”
The DXS-80 is easy to install and is ideal for retrofit applications where pulling cable is a challenge or in hard-to-wire environments such as a basement or crawlspace. The unit installs like any wireless smoke detector, so multiple DXS-80 CO detectors can be used in the same home to protect residents from carbon monoxide poisoning. With the addition of the Linear DX wireless receiver, the DXS-80 can be integrated into a home security system, including most third-party manufacturers. The Linear DXSR-1508 receiver can support up to eight DXS-80 CO detectors.

When carbon monoxide is detected, the DXS-80 sounds an alarm while the DXR-702 sends a digitally coded wireless signal every 20 seconds until the air has cleared. There is no field programming required, since each DXS-80 is factory-set to a unique code. And the DXR-702 is powered by an 11-17 VDC or 12-26 VAC power source. An optional remote antenna is available to increase the radio range.
The DXS-80 uses a chemical reaction to assess CO concentration, which means it is not only proven effective but uses very little power. The DXS-80 comes with a 3-volt lithium battery that can power the unit for up to six years, which is the effective life of the detector. At the end of its service life, the detector will signal impending failure with a low-battery chirp and a low-battery signal to the receiver.
