Redmond, WA (April 21, 2010)—Building automation
pioneer Alerton (www.alerton.com) today
debuted the VLCA-1688, an advanced application controller and the latest
hardware addition to the company’s industry leading building automation
solutions. The VLCA-1688 includes a high resolution 12-bit A/D; D/A converter
and new, 32-bit processor and real-time clock that supports its own schedules,
trendlogs and alarms. The controller also features monitored on-board
Hand-Off-Auto (HOA) switches, Ethernet or MS/TP connectivity, and additional
math functions beyond a standard unitary controller. It also leverages new DDC
Function blocks such as a sunrise/sunset calculator and wet bulb calculator.
“The VLCA-1688 is ideal for installations featuring large air handling units,
motor control centers, small central plants, or virtually any system with
numerous, interdependent control points,” said Mike Timmerman, Alerton’s manager
of engineering. “It’s a most economic solution because it can do the job of
multiple unitary controllers while also providing additional features that
enhance the usability of the installed system.”
Six additional advanced math functions and four addition analog functions
provide flexibility in meeting the need for increased functionality and
complexity in DDC applications as well as the ability to develop a wide range of
applications. The MS/TP communication option allows the VLCA-1688 to coexist
with unitary controllers on the MS/TP trunk. Connectivity using BACnet/Ethernet
or BACnet/IP allows flexibility and provides an increased connection speed
option.

Alerton’s VLCA-1688 is ideal in a variety of applications including air handling
units, where it supports additional sensors and enables local control;
retrofits, where the VLCA-1688 enables you to reuse existing sensors; and
central plants, where the increased DDC code space, analog values (AVs), binary
values (BVs), and new DDC functions can be used to full advantage.
The VLCA-1688 is available now through authorized Alerton dealers. For more
