54 Tons Of Show Material Recycled

WESTPORT, Connecticut… April 11, 2011, 2011 — In addition to showcasing hundreds of sustainable products and solutions on the Show floor, AHR EXPO Show Management announced that more than 54 tons of material was recycled from the 2011 event held in Las Vegas in February.*

This represents nearly 80 percent of all waste materials generated during the Show in seven major categories – wood, plastics, paper/cardboard, carpet, carpet pad, ferrous metal and film. It also represents 54 tons of material that were diverted from becoming landfill. Much of the material will be recycled back to its original form, i.e. paper, cardboard, re-purposed carpet, etc. Some materials such as plastics will be used to build safe playgrounds for kids and for other useful purposes.

“We have been working closely with the convention centers and other partners where our events are held to ensure that we recycle as much as we possibly can,” said Clay Stevens, President of International Exposition Company, which produces and manages the AHR Expo.  “We are very pleased that nearly 80 percent of the waste materials were diverted from landfill and we hope to improve on that impressive figure at future events.”

The 64th AHR Expo, scheduled for Chicago’s McCormick Place Convention Center, January 23-25, 2012, will have a special focus on recycling and sustainability of Show materials. McCormick Place boasts a ‘Green Action Team’ that specializes in recycling and environmental responsibility.

As the 2012 event is shaping up to be one of the biggest in the event’s illustrious 80-year history, Stevens said that one of the records he hopes to break for the Chicago Show is the highest percentage of material ever recycled for the event.
