Niagara Framework® to support Simple DRAS Client
Classification and Smart DRAS Client Classification
RICHMOND, VIRGINIA, August 10, 2010-In keeping with the open, extensible
architecture of the Niagara Framework, Tridium announced today its commitment to
conform to the Open ADR (Open Automated Demand Response) specification.
Conforming to the Open ADR specification will help facilities and buildings save
power through automated demand response technology, and contribute to the
advancement of the Smart Grid.
The company has completed the first phase by developing a simple DRAS (Demand
Response Automation Server) Client driver. As a simple DRAS client this Niagara
driver polls the DRAS to obtain Event Status Information in order to initiate or
terminate an event within Niagara. The data portion of the event is expected to
be consumed by the DRAS client and consists of a series of Operation mode
values. In addition, the Niagara simple DRAS Client will connect to the DRAS
Server in a secure mode using SSL.
As a second phase, Tridium is targeting next year to release the remaining full
Smart DRAS Client functions. The Smart DRAS Client, supporting the REST
implementation, will be capable of dealing with all the Event information that
may be associated with a demand response event initiated by a Utility or ISO. It
will also be able to parse all the Event information and acknowledge event
messages as well as opt out to a particular automated demand response event.
Since 1996, the Niagara Framework has been helping buildings owners and facility
management extract energy data to help manage and control energy within
buildings and to run at optimal performance and energy efficiency.
"These new capabilities not only furthers our commitment to energy management
and the Smart Grid; it also assists buildings and facilities to adopt demand
response programs as a way of saving energy" said Marc Petock, Tridium's vice
president global marketing & communications. "These additional features will
also help manufacturers of building automation equipment design products for
demand response and the Smart Grid".
