System to provide two-way advanced metering
capabilities utilizing power line carrier technology.
WAUKESHA, WI, August 17, 2010 – Cooper Power Systems, a division of Cooper
Industries plc (NYSE: CBE), today announced that it has been selected by
Consolidated Electric Cooperative, Inc. of Mount Gilead, Ohio to deploy its
power line carrier (PLC) advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) network
throughout the electric cooperative’s service territory.
The project includes implementing more than 16,000 new electric meters with
integrated Cooper AMI modules within a 12 month period. This aggressive
deployment schedule will allow Consolidated to benefit from the breadth of
information brought back and managed by the Yukon Advanced Energy Services
Platform. Consolidated is looking forward to improving billing accuracy,
operational efficiencies and responsiveness, and customer service and
satisfaction with the implementation of Cooper Power Systems two-way AMI
solution. The system will connect the cooperative to their members dispersed
throughout eight central Ohio counties served by nearly 1,500 miles of
distribution line.
“We chose the Cooper Power Systems AMI solution because of its ability to
quickly provide the range of data we need to better serve our customers,” said
Phil Caskey, vice president of engineering and operations at Consolidated. “One
of the big drivers in selecting them was the ability to use a single software
platform to manage multiple programs that will enable us to monitor and control
our distribution system, including their feature-rich AMI solution.”
More than 200 electric utilities throughout North America are realizing the
benefits of managing multiple automation solutions using the Yukon platform.
The software has continually evolved and currently includes support for advanced
metering infrastructure, demand response, capacitor bank control, volt/VAR
optimization, smart sensors, feeder reconfiguration and substation automation.
“Utilities like Consolidated Electric Cooperative, Inc. are looking for a
trusted Smart Grid partner to grow with their current and future Smart Grid
needs,” said Tom Pitstick, vice president and general manager of the Energy
Automation Solutions division at Cooper Power Systems. “They selected Cooper
Power Systems because we are a recognized leader in providing end-to-end Smart
Grid solutions.”
