ATLANTA - August 20, 2014 - Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas selected integrated LED luminaires and controls from the Acuity Brands, Inc. (NYSE:AYI) healthcare solutions portfolio to help achieve its goal of becoming LEED Platinum® certified for Healthcare building design and construction. The new lighting system addresses the unique needs of the hospital's facilities - including multiple dimming options for nighttime lighting and automatic illumination in hallways and patient rooms when emergency buttons are activated.

"The hospital set a goal to achieve LEED-Platinum certification for Healthcare, as part of its push for the organization to be environmentally friendly and to be good stewards of sustainability," said Brian Horras, Project Manager at Beck, the specifying engineering firm that supported the project. "Because this is a new facility and the client wanted the latest and most effective technology, they advocated for state of the art lighting using LED luminaires. Another bonus is from a maintenance cost standpoint; you don't have to replace lamps as often with the LEDs."

VT Series LED luminaires from Lithonia Lighting® illuminate the hallways and common areas of the new 85,000 square-foot, 72-bed patient tower and hospital - an addition to the existing campus. VT Series LED luminaires were selected because they are cost-efficient and energy-saving LED luminaires that could seamlessly be paired with nLight® control devices from Acuity Controls, providing an integrated solution tailored for the healthcare environment. In addition to offering a variety of dimming options, the lighting controls also have the ability to track energy savings.

"We chose the Acuity Brands lighting and control system based on its performance specifications and capabilities," said Horras. "These specific LED luminaires and controls even proved to be less expensive than a comparable high performance fluorescent system."

Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas also installed the LED Step Light from Winona® as a night-light in patient bathrooms, which features amber lighting technology to help avoid disturbing patient sleep cycles.

The Acuity Brands healthcare portfolio provides lighting and control solutions that can offer a superior visual experience for occupants, reduce operating and maintenance burdens, and support sustainability.
