No programming required – efficient user interface engineering integrated directly into Visual StudioŽ
SAVAGE, Minnesota, November 30, 2015 – The newly announced TwinCAT HMI
system from Beckhoff Automation ushers in a paradigm shift for modern
HMI software. Instead of proprietary systems for engineering and
communication, and their use only on certain operating systems,
Beckhoff leverages IT standards such as Microsoft Visual StudioŽ for
the engineering, HTML5 for the design, and Websockets and HTTPS for
secure communication.
The new TwinCAT HMI solution from Beckhoff provides the solution and a
first step toward the next generation of HMI, integrating the Human
Machine Interface directly into the familiar Visual StudioŽ
environment. The software and programming environment were designed
with optimum efficiency and maximum user comfort in mind. Programming
is not required, as the graphic editor comfortably handles
configuration. As simple as the configuration is, the handling is
equally adaptable: this web-based solution, based on HTML5 and
JavaScript, acts “responsively”, adapting the display to best suit the
screen in use regardless of the operating system, browser or device.
The powerful basic architecture facilitates numerous application
scenarios – from the local HMI panel solution to multi-client,
multi-server and multi-runtime concepts. Individual extensions can be
quickly implemented via defined interfaces, and the mix of standard
graphic controls and custom design elements enables a high degree of
individualization.
Depending on experience and application, the HMI logic can be
implemented on the client side in JavaScript or as a server extension.
This offers the possibility to write extensions in .NET or C++,
achieving a high degree of intellectual property (IP) protection as a
result. Beckhoff offers a scalable hardware and software portfolio for
flexible operator interface concepts in TwinCAT HMI and an extensive
product range of Control Panels and Panel PCs.
