Lansing, MI – Kanepi Innovations, a West Michigan-based wireless infrastructure company focusing on the development of energy conservation and building controls technology, has joined with Clean Green Energy, a collection of renewable energy generation and efficiency technologies, to partner together to enhance the Project EverGREEN Schools program. This renewable energy program is a first in the nation.

At this time of unprecedented volatility in the world energy market, a looming recession, and continued financial instability nationwide, most states and school systems face dire challenges to their budgets. Unfortunately, at this time when maximum flexibility is needed, most states and school systems find themselves saddled with laws and regulations that prevent the adoption of attractive options for reducing their energy and operating costs through renewable systems. Project EverGREEN Schools addresses this need by providing funding and new cutting-edge technologies to school systems without impacting their budgets.

Project EverGREEN School’s first project is scheduled to install in Clark County, NV in the latter part of this year. In 2007, Nevada passed legislation for a “Renewable Energy in Schools Pilot Program”. Recent action by the Public Utilities Commission in response to that legislation has opened the door for third party providers of renewable energy systems. "I wanted an option to make Renewable Power available to our 310,000 students at no cost and no risk to the district" said Paul Gerner, Associate Superintendent for Facilities for the Clark County School District. "We now have opened the door to that brighter future, where our kids can have large portions of their power coming from renewable systems that they can experience first hand, funded by willing investors, and at a net savings on their utility bills. It's a win-win. Our students get a hands-on education and scholarships for higher education." Use of Clean Green Energy’s Windstor wind-turbine technology and a photovoltaic solar array will generate most of the power for the schools.

“Project EverGREEN Schools is an interactive, self-sustaining cycle that begins with hands-on educational experiences. Understanding stimulates innovations that lead to technological discoveries and new employment opportunities. Public acceptance of new technologies provides funding for continued education,” stated Bryan Zaplitny, President of Clean Green Energy, “but we need to have that innovative initial technology to begin the process. Kanepi Innovation’s Intu! wireless infrastructure control system is that out-of-the-box thinking technology.”

Intu! utilizes light fixtures as a vector to create a mesh-network in the ceiling allowing the end-user to have complete control of the energy footprint; controlling lighting, HVAC, compressors, conveyors, M2M, and other energy-using systems.

“Systems in a facility sense and respond to users and equipment and know in an instant when something needs their attention,” commented Larry Leete, Kanepi Innovation’s director of sales, marketing and strategic continuity. “Imagine using lights, heating, cooling, power and other resources just when you need them. It’s now possible to securely sync and smarten everything at work behind the scenes; increasing control and reducing energy consumption by as much as 70%. Now take this technology and pair it with the next generation of alternative energy generation that Clean Green Energy has developed, and you have a very compelling story for energy conservation and sustainability. We are very pleased to have been asked to participate in this project which has a scalable impact on our quest for environmental stewardship.”

“This is truly a very unique opportunity for a myriad of Michigan-based companies. Facing the worst economic recession in years, with Michigan at the bottom of the rankings, these companies coming together to create a program like none other is a great blue-print for what we can do for the state, the schools, and the future of our children” remarked Zaplitny.
