LAS VEGAS, NV., January 30, 2017 — Automated Logic Corporation (ALC), a leading provider of innovative building automation systems, has expanded its product portfolio to include a new line of self-powered, wireless space sensors, promoting sustainability, optimized comfort and energy efficiency in commercial buildings. Designed to work with WebCTRL® controllers and the WebCTRL building automation system, these sensors monitor a building’s conditions to optimize the use of HVAC and lighting systems within the building. ALC is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
Available in eight models, the new line of wireless sensors (WS line) monitor a variety of building conditions including temperature, humidity, motion, light and the opening and closing of doors and windows. This information is then shared with the WebCTRL system where various control strategies are executed to enhance occupant comfort and optimize energy usage including:
- Adjusting room temperatures and supporting lighting system based on room occupancy
- Supporting lighting system to accommodate natural light
- Turning off heating or cooling systems when windows are opened
The new wireless sensors include energy-harvesting EnOcean® technology which collects ambient light via built-in solar panels that power the sensor and send wireless communications. Batteries or other power sources are not required when sufficient lighting exists in the space.
The wireless sensors are simple and cost-effective to install. And, because there are no wires to run, the sensors can be positioned in hard-to-access areas that are impractical for wired sensors. They can be surface mounted directly to a wall or to a back plate so setup is relatively straightforward. The sensors are particularly beneficial in spaces that need to be frequently reconfigured like leased tenant space in office buildings. Other ideal applications include:
- Large atriums
- Schools
- Hospitals
- Historic buildings
Once installed, the wireless sensors communicate directly with a WS wireless adapter, which is connected to the WebCTRL controller that optimizes the HVAC and lighting systems in the space. This adapter can be installed up to 60 feet away (or even further in many situations) from the sensors, ensuring strong communication signals without the need for amplifiers or repeaters. And, with its small size and plug-and-play capabilities, the wireless adapter is compatible with both new and existing WebCTRL systems, making it relatively easy to add wireless sensors to any building.
Because of their flexibility, the wireless sensors offer several benefits to installers:
- Easy installation and commissioning (ladders optional)
- No wires to trace when diagnosing potential issues
- Wireless software tools for commissioning and diagnostics are
included with every purchase. Uncommon in the industry, these wireless
tools simplify commissioning and troubleshooting by allowing installers
to verify wireless signal integrity before installing sensors and also
facilitate the discovery, pairing and commissioning of sensors to the
wireless adapter on the controller.

wireless sensors will be available in different frequencies for
different parts of the world and also support both metric and English
units, providing global compatibility. They can also be mixed and
matched with Automated Logic’s popular ZS line of wired sensors, making
them ideal for both new and retrofit applications. If you would like
