More than 20 member companies to demonstrate the latest energy harvesting wireless solutions combining easy installation with high comfort and low energy consumption

San Ramon, CA/Dallas, TX – January 22, 2013 – The EnOcean Alliance will showcase the latest innovations in energy harvesting wireless HVAC control at this year’s AHR Expo in Dallas, January 28-30. The Alliance is a consortium of companies using the EnOcean energy harvesting wireless standard, which is the basis for maintenance-free wireless automation systems working without batteries. At the joint EnOcean Alliance booth 809 at AHR Expo, three Alliance promoters Thermokon, Verve Living Systems (a ZENO Controls company) and EnOcean together with members Marlow Industries and Mitsubishi Materials will present their innovative solutions in this field. In addition another 16 Alliance members will exhibit EnOcean-based applications at the largest HVACR event.

Since its official formation five years ago, the EnOcean Alliance tracked a unique way of success in establishing and internationalizing energy harvesting wireless technology as the communication standard for green and sustainable buildings. The global spread of the EnOcean standard is also reflected in the growth of the Alliance, which today has more than 300 member companies offering over 1,000 interoperable products.

The mutual basic technology is EnOcean’s energy harvesting wireless technology, which enables wireless communication by collecting energy from the surroundings such as motion, light and temperature differences. HVAC systems including sensors, thermostats, heating valves, ventilation systems, or intelligent control units integrating this technology can achieve 20 to 40 percent in energy savings combined with high comfort and reduced installation and maintenance cost.

EnOcean will demonstrate their newest 902 MHz energy harvesting wireless module series recently introduced to the North American market. The new frequency offers a longer range and robust performance in combination with easier product integration, enabling fully integrated small product enclosures. The 902 MHz line-up is ideally suited for reliable, long range wireless and batteryless communication in the home and building automation sector. For OEMs desiring fast time to market or to complement their core product portfolio, EnOcean offers a selection of energy harvesting wireless, white label finished products.

Thermokon Sensortechnik will showcase room automation using the multifunctional room control Thanos, which is designed for temperature and humidity detection as well as for integrated operation of HVAC, lighting and blinds for single room control. Via Thanos users can control a fan coil unit as well as a radiator valve communicating with the EnOcean standard ISO/IEC 14543-3-10 featuring the wireless radiator valve actuator SAB-02 and the 8 + 4-channel transceiver STC-DO8. In a typical stand-alone application the combination of STC-DO8 and an extension module provides sufficient output channels to control heating, cooling, lights and/or blinds. For lighting applications Thanos can call multiple scenes and dim modern LED illumination in various colors using the Thermokon EnOcean/DALI gateway. Furthermore, Thermokon illustrates the connectivity of EnOcean to other standard bus systems and the integration in building management system controls.

In cooperation with its partner BELIMO US, Thermokon will demonstrate a wireless CO2/temperature/humidity sensor, which monitors indoor air quality and transmits it's measurements to Thanos to be displayed. Depending on the CO2 concentration a wireless receiver controls the fresh air supply via a BELIMO damper actuator.

Verve Living Systems, a ZENO Controls company, will present its energy harvesting wireless product suite, which provides intuitively simple control of lights, outlets and temperature. Occupancy sensing controls maximize energy efficiency with turning lights off and adjusting the temperature when spaces are not in use. Verve products are easy to install and require no ongoing maintenance, which saves time and money. Verve will showcase four pre-configured systems optimized for their most sought after applications. This includes two versions of a hotel guest room energy management, basic daylighting as well as wired/wireless hybrid systems. In combination with the ZENO gateway systems, the products can be plugged into networks based on other communication protocols such as BACnet or TCP/IP.

Mitsubishi Materials will introduce its SMT chip antenna series, which can be tuned for multiple frequencies. It has an extremely small footprint for applications that only have little space for antenna integration. The portfolio of Mitsubishi Materials includes a range of surface mounted chip antennas that can be tuned to different frequencies from 315 MHz to beyond 2.4 GHz or a surface mounted chip NFC resonator.

[an error occurred while processing this directive] Marlow Industries will demonstrate its latest developments in thermoelectric modules and value-added systems, which are designed for cooling, heating, temperature stabilization or power generation in several fields of application. This includes the new EverGen plate exchanger, which allows larger scale thermal power generation capability via pressurized hot and cold liquid streams from fluid filled pipes or exhaust stacks. In addition, the company will demo at the booth HVAC control in building automation, which is based on thermal energy harvesters. These provide power without batteries to wireless sensors, actuators including valve actuators, and other micro devices.

Besides the EnOcean Alliance booth, the following additional 16 member companies are presenting their EnOcean-based solutions and services at AHR Expo 2013:

Can2Go (booth 945), Capital Review Group (booth 5520), Delta Controls (booth 833), Distech Controls (booth 615), Dwyer (booth 675), Functional Devices (booth 779), Gas Sensing Solutions (booth 852), KMC Controls (booth 729), Leviton (booth 895), LonMark (booth 960), Reliable Controls (booth 815), Siemens (booth 905), Spartan Peripheral Devices (booth 739), Titus (booth 1833), Tridium (booth 909) and WAGO (booth 920).

About EnOcean Alliance
Leading companies worldwide from the building sector collected to form the EnOcean Alliance and establish innovative automation solutions for sustainable building projects – and so to make buildings more energy-efficient, more flexible and lower in cost. The core technology of the Alliance is energy harvesting wireless technology for flexibly positioned and service-free sensor solutions. The EnOcean Alliance aims to internationalize the energy harvesting wireless technology, and is dedicated to creating interoperability between the products of OEM partners. Basis for this is the international standard ISO/IEC 14543-3-10, which is optimized for wireless solutions with ultra-low power consumption and energy harvesting. More than 300 companies currently belong to the EnOcean Alliance. The headquarters of the non-profit organization is located in San Ramon, California.
