Deep East Texas Electrical Cooperative becomes first Tantalus utility to deploy integrated solution
Raleigh, NC – July 31, 2012 – Tantalus, a leading provider of real-time
Smart Grid communications, announced today the integration of the
Tantalus Utility Network (TUNet) with Southeastern Data Cooperative
(SEDC), a leading provider of billing and accounting software for the
electric utility industry. The integration from TUNet to SEDC billing
software follows MultiSpeak protocols and now enables Tantalus to offer
utility customers a wider array of billing, accounting, engineering and
operations functions.
TUNet and SEDC work together seamlessly as a behind-the-scenes
operations management engine that feeds real-time data to existing
billing interfaces and management software. TUNet can also supply
real-time scheduled and on-demand meter reads directly to SEDC billing,
enabling more accurate and immediate billing and usage data.
Deep East Texas Electric Cooperative (DETEC) is the first customer to
realize the benefits of TUNet’s integration with Utility Power Net
(UPN), SEDC’s easy-to-use suite of billing, accounting and capital
credit utility software. This announcement follows last year’s news
that DETEC selected Tantalus to replace an aging, one-way automated
meter reading (AMR) system with advanced metering infrastructure (AMI).
“We’re very pleased with Tantalus’ work in ensuring a successful
integration with SEDC’s billing solution that fits well into our
existing business and billing processes,” said Bruce Goss, DETEC’s AMI
Project Manager.
“We’re proud to integrate TUNet with UPN, SEDC’s comprehensive billing
suite,” said Eric Murray, Tantalus president & CEO. “We can now
offer utilities what they’ve long been seeking – an integrated solution
that offers accurate and immediate data for billing purposes.”

The application is now available for nationwide rollout to SEDC’s customer base of more than 240 public distribution utilities.
