EDK 350U is a comprehensive tool enabling the fastest development of batteryless wireless solutions
[Salt Lake City – July 22, 2013] EnOcean today announced the
availability of its new developer kit, EDK 350U, for the North American
market. The kit covers the entire product range in 902 MHz, from energy
harvesting and wireless modules to ready-made product solutions. The
new kit is part of a modular concept with which EnOcean can offer OEMs
a cost-effective and customized development platform for fast
integration of energy harvesting wireless into building and industrial
automation, smart home as well as machine-to-machine
systems.
“The kit’s Plug & Play features enable straightforward integration into an OEM’s hardware and provide comprehensive development tools and application software resulting in efficient design and fast time to market. Coupled with EnOcean’s exceptional application engineering support, we provide the most effective path to integrating wireless control into an OEM’s product,” says Jim O’Callaghan, President of EnOcean Inc.
All-in-one package
The new developer kit’s central element is a universal programmer board
EOP 350. In combination with EnOcean’s DolphinStudio PC software, the
kit provides application development, configuration and programming for
EnOcean wireless modules targeted for the OEMs unique needs. The
complete EDK 350U includes a suite of EnOcean products: TCM 320U
(line-powered transceiver module), STM 300U (universal wireless sensor
module), ECO 200 (mechanical energy converter), PTM 330U (transmitter
module for ECO 200), PTM 210U (energy harvesting switch module), STM
33xU (solar-powered temperature sensor module), USB 300U (USB wireless
gateway to PC), DolphinStudio (configuration and programming software)
and DolphinAPI (application programming interface).
The package is completed by the DolphinView PC software for visualizing
and analyzing the wireless protocol. The application profiles (EnOcean
Equipment Profiles or EEP) that enable interoperability between devices
and manufacturers can also be transmitted and interpreted with the kit.
Modular set for customized development
EDK 350U modules communicate on the 902 MHz frequency. This band offers
reliable, long-range communication, typically double the range of 2.4
GHz devices of similar output power, with a significantly lower energy
budget. Using the kit, developers can create a comprehensive range of
energy harvesting wireless applications, including switches in various
form factors, bidirectional sensors, and innovative controllers.
EnOcean TCM modules can be easily enabled to repeat signals, extend
wireless range and enhance robustness. The USB 300U stick enables
EnOcean-based products to be integrated quickly into smart home
systems. All application-specific configurations can be done via the
programmer board and the Dolphin software. The new developer kit is
also available for the frequency bands 868 MHz (EDK 350) and 315 MHz
(EDK 350C).
New antennas certified for EnOcean
For OEMs seeking a small, PCB-integrated solution with excellent RF
performance, Mitsubishi Materials has introduced the AM11DG series
surface mount antenna. It is well suited for small footprint products,
enabling creative packaging while retaining superior wireless
performance. The AM11DG carries FCC limited modular approval for the
EnOcean STM 300U solar-powered wireless sensor module, the TCM 300U and
TCM 310U transceiver modules as well as for the EDK 350U developer kit.
Applications are as diverse as remote control, measuring and control
equipment, emergency and security applications, real-time tracking,
hand-held terminals, and many others. This antenna can also be used in
European applications at 868 MHz by only changing a few inductors.
