A
new, state-of-the-art Building Management System (BMS) from Distech
Controls is making a major contribution towards improving indoor
climate quality at a refurbished office block in Oslo. Provided by
system integrator SD-Consult from Norway, the new control system is
also helping to dramatically reduce energy consumption and carbon
emissions for the building’s tenants.
The building is undergoing a total retrofit with eight new air handling
units installed, as well as an upgrade of the Building Management
System (BMS) to include an energy management program. The Hydro-owned
60,000mē office building, featuring a complete meeting centre with 22
meetings rooms, required a control system that could be quickly
installed to meet demanding project timescales. The system also needed
to be easy to use, incorporating optimiser functions and smartphone
capabilities.
“There were tight deadlines we had to meet on this project as everything needed to be done before the customer moved in” comments Erik Nordli of SD-Consult. “Thanks to Distech Controls, the installation process was incredibly simple and swift. It just worked perfectly first time and, with no time to test or check for errors, that was extremely important.”
SD-Consult selected the Distech EC-NetAX web-based, integrated building
management platform for the project allowing seamless integration
between heating and cooling within the HVAC plant. EC-NetAX offers
multi-protocol, multi-function capabilities to provide seamless and
intelligent integration of different building services sub-systems
using a web browser. On this project, it offers a common platform for
key BMS functions, such as, network control, energy monitoring,
alarming, data logging management, and audit trails; communicating with
building services equipment using the BACnet protocol. In the
event of plant failure, the BMS automatically triggers an email to
SD-Consult with historical trend logging and reporting also activated
via email.

The EC-BOS combines integrated control, supervision, data logging, alarming, scheduling and network management functions with Internet connectivity and web serving capabilities in a small, compact platform. The ECB-600 controllers’ capacity was expanded by use of 12 ECx-400 expansion modules connected via a sub-network. The installation included six BACnet IP Routers and 66 ECB-VAV controllers, which are perfect for applications from single duct to fan powered VAV with reheat and radiation heating.
The project incorporated 66 of Distech Controls new Allure EC-Smart-Vue
sensors, which can measure four different parameters in one sensor;
temperature, humidity, CO2 and motion. The integrated sensors interface
with the BACnet ECB Series controllers via the controller sub network.
For complete ease-of-use, the DGLux has been used so operations can be
managed on every platform and on apps through the internet.
