Tenants and Patrons of MRCB's KL Sentral Development and the Penang Sentral Will Soon Live 'the Connected Life'

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, Mar 17, 2008 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX News Network) -- Cisco(R) (NASDAQ: CSCO) and Malaysian Resources Corp. Berhad (MRCB) today announced that they will collaborate to develop first-of-its-kind intelligent real estate centres in Malaysia. The agreement was announced during the launch of the Cisco Express-Network on Wheels (NoW), a mobile showcase featuring key Cisco technologies that empower "the connected life."

At the ceremony were Shahril Ridza Ridzuan, MRCB group managing director; Kumaran Singaram, managing director of Cisco Malaysia; and Christian Hentschel, Cisco's director for marketing, commercial and channels in Asia, as well as approximately 150 key guests from the information technology (IT) and property development industries, the media and project partners.

The collaboration will involve the deployment of Cisco's Connected Real Estate (CRE) solution, a core multiservice Internet Protocol (IP) platform and network system that allows for easy integration of IT and building automation networks for MRCB's future property developments. The Cisco CRE solution provides a single IT environment that allows the integration of multiple technologies, bringing together the convergence of data, voice, video, building systems, safety and security, and building automation technologies into play simultaneously.

"Cisco CRE's open-standards-based building infrastructure encourages a centralised approach to monitoring, maintenance and control of the building environment, where building-control systems across all properties can be controlled from a single place, thus reducing maintenance costs and prolonging building lifecycles," said Shahril of MRCB.

"This powerful combination will provide significant benefits for our customers, our shareholders and other stakeholders in our development," he added.

The collaboration, beginning with MRCB's KL Sentral development, will focus on its latest site at Lot G, comprising more than 2.8 million square feet of retail, office, residential and hospitality properties. This will be followed by the Penang Sentral development, a 30-acre site involving the development of a transportation hub, integrated with retail, commercial and residential developments.

Some of the key technologies behind the digital experiences soon to be enabled by the Cisco and MRCB collaboration will be showcased in the Cisco Express-NoW. The 40-foot retro-fitted shipment container, featuring technologies and solutions worth over US$1 million, serves as a platform to bring Cisco's technology to the doorsteps of more than 20,000 customers, business owners and individuals across Asia.

"Cisco has the right technology and expertise to help developers like MRCB build intelligent buildings and transform their business model into one that is based on the provision of services. Cisco has been driving the concept of establishing connectivity as the fourth utility, after electricity, gas and water, in Malaysia. This strategic relationship marks an important step in that process," he added.

Cisco Express-NoW is scheduled for a six-week tour around Malaysia, including Penang (21-26 March), Johor Bahru (6-13 April), and Putrajaya (14-15 April). The mobile showcase also features solutions from regional sponsors CNA, EMC, Emerson Network Power, Linksys, Panduit and SingTel. Country sponsors of Cisco Express-NoW include Ingram Micro, Databridge Communication Services Network Systems, Glocomp (M) Sdn Bhd, Fujitsu, JardineOne Solutions Sdn Bhd and Computer Systems Advisors (M) Bhd.
