The community of manufacturers and users of KNX technology is constantly expanding: in 2008, the worldwide standard for home and building control experienced very strong growth once again. Over the year, 45 new companies from 15 different countries joined KNX Association. By the end of the year, 148 manufacturing companies from 23 countries across the globe were members of the Association. The number of new ETS licences issued in 2008 once again grew more strongly than in 2007. In total, more than 22,000 ETS licences were sold in 84 countries. The manufacturer- and product-independent ETS tool is required for programming and commissioning KNX-certified products.

The year 2009 has also started well – in defiance of the economic risis – with reports of new successes: recently the number of KNX member companies reached 150 for the first time in the technology’s ery successful history, which stretches back almost 20 years. In the first two months of the year alone, a further 11 manufacturers from 8 different countries joined KNX Association. The 150th member was the Japanese industrial group Daikin. With more than 43,000 employees and a presence on every continent, Daikin is the world’s largest manufacturer of air-conditioning and cooling systems. Daikin’s products are directly integrated into the building services engineering. As a global player, the company perfectly complements the existing KNX network and product range.

New partnerships with international organisations
At the end of 2008, a new strategic partnership was forged in uxembourg with the umbrella association for all European electrical contractors’ professional organisations (European Association of lectrical Contractors - AIE). A total of 175,000 member companies fall under the umbrella of AIE. The main objective of this partnership is to secure for KNX a stronger representation in initial and further training for electrical professionals, and thereby to become better-known among users. The first KNX training schemes have already started in numerous European countries.

This international professional organisation has among its members integrators and manufacturers of audio and video systems. The primary goals here are to promote KNX technology in EDIA’s further training scheme, and to stimulate the exchange of ideas and experience between members of the two organisations.

KNX Association is the creator and owner of the KNX technology – the worldwide STANDARD for ll applications in home and building control, ranging from lighting and shutter control to various ecurity systems, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, monitoring, alarming, water control, energy management, metering as well as household appliances, audio and lots more. KNX is the worldwide standard for home and building control with a single, manufacturer independent design and commissioning tool (ETS), with a complete set of supported communication media (TP, PL, RF and IP) as well as a complete set of supported configuration modes (system and easy mode). KNX is approved as a European (CENELEC EN 50090 and CEN EN 13321-1) and an International standard (ISO/IEC 14543-3). This standard is based upon more than 19 years of experience in the market including its predecessors, EIB, EHS and BatiBUS. Over 150 member companies worldwide from different application domains have almost 7000 KNX certified product groups in their catalogues. The KNX Association has partnership agreements with more than 30,000 installer companies in 80 countries.  For more information visit www.knx.org
