Siemens Now Offers Retailers OpenADR 2.0 Compliance for Demand Response
Siemens announced today that its SureGrid Demand Response (DR) site
enablement solution has successfully passed the testing and
certification process for Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR) 2.0
compliance. The cloud-based DR aggregation tool allows for standardized
two-way IP-based communication between utilities / grid operators and
building control systems which can then automatically reduce
electricity usage during peak periods.
OpenADR is an open and interoperable information exchange model and emerging Smart Grid standard that standardizes dynamic pricing and electricity grid reliability signals between utilities and commercial end-users. It also simplifies customer DR participation and improves DR event results.
“More and more utilities now require OpenADR compliance to participate in demand response programs,” says Marcus Boerkei, general manager for the Retail and Commercial Systems group of the Building Technologies Division at Siemens. “Our SureGrid technology enables individual buildings to dynamically interact with the electrical grid, based on local business rules and real-time asset and environmental conditions. As a board member of the OpenADR Alliance, Siemens is proud to support a standards-based approach to grid management.”
Siemens’ SureGrid Intelligent Load Management (ILM) is a turn-key service which enables retail chain operators and other commercial building owners to maximize DR revenues while protecting the customer experience, through patented aggregation and “auction” capabilities. SureGrid is offered as an integrated component of the Siemens Site Controls Energy Management System (EMS) for chain retailers, and is also compatible with a broad range of Building Automation Systems (BAS) for large commercial building operators.
