[Washington, D.C.- April 23, 2008] - In an announcement from the Office of the Small Business Administration, Engenuity Systems President, Tracy Markie, was informed that he was chosen as the 2008 Arizona Small Business Person of the Year.

Markie was invited to Washington, D.C. to represent the state of Arizona and his company, Engenuity Systems, during National Small Business Week, held from April 21 to April 23, 2008. The honorees were also invited to the White House and granted a special private audience with President George Bush.

President Bush issued a Proclamation stating, "During Small Business Week and throughout the year, we recognize the determination and ingenuity of America's workers and entrepreneurs who play a vital role in building a more prosperous future for our country." The President called small businesses "the backbone of the American economy" and praised the owners for "working hard to turn their dreams into enterprises."

The week's activities included an Opening Reception in the Diplomatic Reception Rooms at the U.S. Department of State, the National Awards Luncheon Honoring State Small Business Winners, a Congressional Reception, and culminated with a black-tie Champion Awards Winner Gala.

Carving a niche in the building automation controls space is not an easy feat for a small enterprise, when the industry is populated with household names like Siemens, Honeywell and Hubbell.

Markie reflects on two tenets that often describe small business owners, "I never thought of myself as a "risk taker" in the generally accepted attributes of an 'entrepreneur'. I believe with the resources of the SBA and the APS AAAME program, we were able to identify risks as opportunities and then convert the opportunities into revenue." He continues, "As for being "lucky" - I am blessed with the support of my family and an extremely dedicated staff at Engenuity. I am a lucky man!"
