Retro-Commissioning (RCx) A Growing and important field

What is RCx? The commissioning of existing buildings—Retro-Commissioning—is a systematic investigation of the current performance of a building’s systems, and their ability to meet the owner’s operating requirements.

Why join the RCx industry?  Retro-Commissioning is a growing area and offers a significant business opportunity for Contractors, TAB professionals, Engineers and Commissioning firms correcting under-performing buildings, improving indoor environment and comfort, and optimizing energy usage for aging facility.

Local Law 87 for New York City requires all buildings over 50,000 square feet to undergo retro-commissioning, and to submit an energy efficiency report based on a building audit performed by an energy auditor. Other States are following with mandates on building energy requirements. Current estimates of the Retro-Commissioning marketplace for commercial buildings stands at $2 Billion.
