Initiative provides growing Security, Monitoring and Automation (SMA) market with much needed support ecosystem

BOSTON, OCTOBER 26, 2010 Ember announced it is among the first companies to join the newly formed OpenSMA program, an industry group committed to the growth and development of the Security, Monitoring and Automation (SMA) market. OpenSMA is spearheaded by uControl, a major SMA technology provider and Ember partner.

Ember fully supports the OpenSMA belief that an open, collaborative approach is necessary to make everything in the connected home work, and work together. Emberwill work with other OpenSMA members to develop and seamlessly deliver the digital/connected home experience to consumers. The effort will ensure compatibility and integration across all members’ products and services.

OpenSMA has five membership categories: service providers, platform hardware, lifestyle devices, apps and infrastructure. Ember, which develops ZigBee and other wireless mesh networking systems, has a unique position within OpenSMA in that it develops enabling technology that can be used by a wide range of members’ SMA products. Ember’s ZigBee networking systems – chips, software and tools –simplify the complexity of developing low-power, wireless products in SMA, Smart Energy and other remote monitoring and control applications.

“Vendor interoperability combined with a rich ecosystem of security and automation products and services will make or break this market,” stated Ember Vice President Dennis Natale. “Openness, standards and multivendor cooperation is crucial for mass adoption of SMA systems in this new era of the connected home. Consumers expect it. OpenSMA will ensure it.”

The newly launched OpenSMA website (www.OpenSMA.com) is the hub for details about the program and announcements – such as new members, as well as event details, whitepapers and member news. OpenSMA membership information can also be found at OpenSMA.com.
