Global Leading Powerline Technologies to be Publicly Available
Portland, Oregon – October 18, 2016 -
HomePlug® (www.homeplug.org), the worldwide standard for powerline
communications networking, today announced that it has proudly
succeeded in becoming the global standard in broadband powerline
networking technology, with over 220 million devices deployed worldwide.
“The efforts of HomePlug Alliance members over the last 16 years have
culminated in HomePlug powerline technologies and products becoming the
overwhelming leaders in global deployments," said HomePlug Alliance
President Rob Ranck. "As a result of the success, the HomePlug Board of
Directors made the decision recently to make the Alliance's broadband
powerline networking specifications available to a broader audience and
at the same time, partner with other alliances with regard to ongoing
work."
Moving forward, the HomePlug technical specifications for HomePlug AV, AV2 and Green PHY® will be made publicly available.
HomePlug recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Wi-SUN
Alliance. Pending a final agreement, the ongoing Netricity® work to
complete the technical profile for layers 1-4 and the certification
testing specifications will transition to the Wi SUN Alliance. This is
a natural progression to the multi-year liaison between HomePlug and
the Wi-SUN Alliance, and will be the efficient path to
commercialization of the technology.
nVoy® hybrid networking: The Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA®) has
signed a Letter of Intent to explore the opportunity for MoCA to assume
the certification and test specification programs for nVoy. As one of
the key stakeholders in the development of the IEEE 1905.1
specification, MoCA is a good fit for the continuation of the nVoy
brand and activities.
Moving forward in 2017, the HomePlug Alliance will be working towards a
seamless transition of alliance activities. Companies involved in the
development and sales of HomePlug products can move forward with the
confidence that the powerline technology developed within the Alliance
continues to be the best available in the market to meet consumer needs.
