Chelmsford, MA – September 20, 2010 – Millennial Net has recently become a member of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, an association of colleges and universities working to create a sustainable world. Through its membership in AASHE, Millennial Net will be able to assist higher education institutions in advancing their sustainability initiatives.
Dieter Schill, President and CEO of Millennial Net commented, “Technology has always been the primary driver in all major sustainability initiatives and we are excited to become an integral part of AASHE’s mission. Wireless mesh sensor networks are becoming an enabling technology to retrofit existing buildings for enhanced energy conservation and a reliable solution for initiatives like the smart grid.”

“We are delighted to have Millennial Net on board and participating in the campus sustainability community,” said Paul Rowland, executive director of AASHE. “Their involvement in AASHE demonstrates a commitment to working with higher education to create a just and sustainable future for all.”

Reducing energy waste significantly cuts carbon emissions. Millennial Net provides Energy Management Solutions (EMS) that monitor and control energy consumption to improve efficiency and reduce waste in buildings. Millennial Net EMS products range from wireless pneumatic and electric thermostats, switches, electricity sub-meters, temperature and humidity meters and number of other sensors. The product suite combines internet and wireless mesh sensor network technologies for a non-invasive and affordable means to retrofit existing buildings. A large number of buildings in higher education institutions are still operating with pneumatic control infrastructures and are falling behind in energy management and waste reduction. Millennial Net’s EMS easily addresses this problem by converting a building with working pneumatic control system to a Direct Digital Control (DDC), using wireless technology. Wireless pneumatic DDC provides rapid payback and minimal disruption to gain ongoing energy and maintenance cost savings, while improving comfort and operations. Millennial Net’s EMS can function as part of existing Building Management Systems integrating via BACnet IP protocol, or can operate as stand alone hosted solution to provide Web-based remote monitoring, control, and maintenance of building environments.

The key is to help higher education institutions align energy consumption and expenses with other cost-saving priorities. Higher education institutions need to better understand how energy consumption relates to their operations, to drive behavioral changes and much more effective investments to upgrade buildings and equipment.

AASHE enables colleges and universities to meet their sustainability goals by providing specialized resources, professional development, and a network for sharing information about sustainability products and services. Membership covers the entire business or campus, so everyone can take advantage of event discounts, access to member-only resources, and other benefits.

Over 650 presidents and chancellors to date have signed this commitment and are leading their institutions to climate neutrality as soon as possible. AASHE hosts the climate action reporting tool for the ACUPCC.
