dallas – September 21, 2010 – The Henry County School
District located in Abbeville, Ala., is executing close to $1 million in energy
saving facility enhancements under a performance contract with Schneider
Electric, a global specialist in energy management. Through the facility
improvements, the school district will gain greater control of its overall
energy usage to reduce utility costs and consumption by 20 percent and improve
energy efficiency. The project will be completely funded with the money saved in
energy each year, allowing the Henry County School District to modernize its
schools without any budget increases.

Located in Southeastern Alabama, the Henry County School District serves 2,929
K-12 students in the towns of Abbeville and Headland. With several years of
state budget cuts and a growing deferred maintenance list stemming from
inefficient HVAC systems, lighting and energy control, the Henry County School
District turned to Schneider Electric to implement energy improvements in five
of its schools, encompassing over 350,000 square feet. As part of the retrofit,
Schneider Electric installed a districtwide energy management system, lighting
occupancy sensors, new HVAC units and upgraded lighting systems in select areas.
With these improvements, the school district will be able to control and
schedule its HVAC equipment, ensure equipment is not left on during times when
the buildings are unoccupied, and decrease overall lighting costs.
Performance contracting offers long-term benefits for government-owned
buildings, such as improved facility efficiency, occupant comfort, financial
management and environmental protection.
