Introducing a valuable new benefit—one that enables ISA members who serve as independent contractors and work as independent business owners to purchase comprehensive professional/errors and omissions and general liability insurance at significant discounts to regular market rates.

This new benefit—which applies solely to ISA members who operate as independent contractors and independent business owners—addresses a significant marketplace trend. Organizations that hire automation professionals as independent contractors and subcontractors are increasingly mandating that these contractors possess sufficient professional/errors and omissions and general liability insurance.

Until now, though, it’s been difficult for independent contractors in the automation field to afford adequate coverage as prices typically range between $3,000 and $8,000 per year. And by foregoing coverage, these automation professionals put their livelihood and financial assets at risk.

Under ISA’s new program, ISA members can purchase this type of insurance between $1,600 and $2,400 a year, depending on the coverage option selected. In addition, ISA members who hold current ISA certification, such as Certified Automation Professional® (CAP®) and Certified Control Systems Technician® (CCST®) status, can gain an additional 10 percent discount off the negotiated rate.

The introduction of this new ISA benefit is nearly a year in the making. Last fall, the ISA management team began discussions with several board members, partners, and vendors—exploring how it could add an affordable professional liability and general liability insurance option for members who work as independent contractors and sub-contractors.

We secured a consultant to assure that the insurance plan we selected would deliver the broadest possible coverage and be available at very competitive pricing. We chose AHM Insurance Group (an AssuredPartners Company) in St. Louis, Missouri, USA as the insurance broker to design the plan. CFC Underwriting, a Managing General Agent for Lloyds of London is implementing and providing it.

contemporary For more information on the plan, including a Q&A section, interested persons should visit the insurance information page on the ISA website. To get the specifics on coverage options, compare coverage options, and gain a quotation, members will need to enter their ISA username and password from that site (as only ISA members can qualify for this below-market-rate coverage plan).

Note that the application process is simple and quick. In most cases, after completing a brief application, members will receive rapid, “real-time” quotations. Enrolling in and purchasing a plan is fast, too, with everything processed online. And, at any time, members can talk and connect with AHM account managers and customer service representatives to ask questions, make any needed changes, and gain advice.

Since only ISA members can qualify for this below-market-rate coverage plan, automation professionals who are not ISA members are encouraged to join the Society. Click here to select your desired membership option and initiate the application process.

Again, ISA is proud to introduce this important new benefit. It underscores our ongoing commitment to enhance the value of ISA membership and meet the real-world needs of automation professionals.
