The Second International Conference and
Workshop on Transactive Energy will address transactive energy methods
and systems for the electric grid, buildings and facilities, and grid
integration on Dec. 10 and 11 at the World Trade Center in Portland,
Oregon.
Abstracts for proposed papers are due by Sept. 19. More details on topics of interest are available at http://events.gridwiseac.org/2014/tec/#cfp. Abstracts can be submitted by uploading them at that link.
The 2014 conference is a partnership between the GridWiseŽ Architecture
Council (GWAC) and Smart Grid Northwest (formerly Smart Grid Oregon),
with support from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest
National Laboratory (PNNL), the Bonneville Power Administration,
Portland General Electric and others. Sponsorship opportunities
are also available and can be seen at http://events.gridwiseac.org/2014/tec/#sponsorship.
Keynote speakers for this year’s conference include:
• BPA Administrator Elliot Mainzer
• David Owens, Executive Vice President of Business
Operations and Regulatory Affairs at the Edison Electric Institute
• Carl Zichella, Director of Western Transmission, Energy Program at the Natural Resources Defense Council.
In addition to a GWAC-organized plenary
session on recent U.S. developments in transactive energy, this year’s
meeting will also feature an international panel with participants from
Australia, Europe and elsewhere speaking about their current use of and
future plans for transactive energy techniques.
The meeting brings together representatives of government, industry,
utilities, vendor organizations and academia who have an interest in
advancing transactive energy—an approach that combines economic and
control techniques to improve power grid reliability and efficiency.

A major outcome of last year’s conference was significant progress on the Transactive Energy Framework document (http://www.gridwiseac.org/pdfs/te_framework_report_pnnl-22946.pdf),
a draft of which was issued in November 2013. The report outlines key
transactive energy concepts, drivers, architectures and terminology
and, as envisioned, will serve as a baseline document for advancing
transactive energy. GWAC accepts comments on the document on an ongoing
basis. Comments may be submitted to the GWAC website or e-mailed
to gridwiseac.coordinator@pnl.gov,
About the GridWise Architecture Council
The GridWise Architecture Council was convened in 2004 by the
Department of Energy with support from the Pacific Northwest National
Laboratory. As a volunteer council, the GWAC includes practitioners and
leaders with broad-based knowledge and expertise in power, information
technology, telecommunications, financial systems and other fields who
are working together toward a coordinated GridWise vision—the
transformation of the nation's energy system into a rich, collaborative
network filled with decision-making information exchange and
market-based opportunities. For more information visit http://www.gridwiseac.org/
