Distech Controls, an innovation leader in
energy management solutions, has supplied its ECL-PTU Series of
LonWorks programmable controllers for Walbrook Building in London, to
help control the fourth floor’s air conditioning and lighting system,
and keep energy costs as low as possible in line with the building’s
BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’.
From the initial stages of the design process, the environmental impact
of The Walbrook Building has been a key consideration. The location of
the building meant that the design had to meet guidelines, preserving
the many protected views afforded by the area with its frontage along
Cannon Street, St. Swithin's Lane and part of Walbrook. Camberley based
installer, ADG Systems, worked on the project with the aim of creating
an efficient and energy saving control system for the air conditioning
and DALI lighting system for this London landmark.
The fourth floor of the Walbrook Building is occupied by Vanguard, an
asset management company based in the US. The Distech Controls system
is separated on a core by core basis and monitored from America by the
Vanguard services managers. This allows Vanguard to have control over
the temperature and lighting in any of its offices across the globe.
Distech Controls’ ECL-PTU controller is an advanced, energy-saving
option for addressing any terminal control application, offering
Walbrook greater flexibility and lowering fuel costs. The simple design
and installation of the controller makes it ideal for multi-application
systems such as the one at Walbrook. Used alongside Distech Controls’
mini EC-Multi-Sensors for presence detection and lux level detection,
its occupancy-based control strategies and daylight harvesting provide
a straightforward and affordable control option, capable of
dramatically cutting energy consumption.

The Walbrook Building has achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. Its CO2
emissions are 38% less than the Building Regulations Part L 2006 target
emission rate and the CO2 reductions from Renewable Energy &
Efficiency measures will be 14%, 4% more than the GLA London Plan
target.
Being able to control the air conditioning and lighting from Distech
Controls’ ECL-PTU controllers creates an energy efficient solution in
keeping with all aspects of the buildings green development. Reliable
and easy to use systems are paramount for these large multi-use
buildings in London, and Distech Controls provides the ideal solution.
