AHR Expo is right around the corner and many BIG members are already looking forward to reuniting with old friends, meeting new ones, and sharing big ideas about industry trends and technologies.
But what is BIG?
BIG is the Building Intelligent Group, a non-profit association with local chapters across the country dedicated to providing cross-disciplinary networking and educational opportunities for intelligent building owners, operators, and professionals. Where other industry associations specialize in their trade’s subject matter, BIG’s cross-disciplinary approach cuts across all of the trades and knowledge bases required to make buildings intelligent.
We may not have a booth at the show but you’ll find our members throughout the conference, among the ASHRAE attendees, working their company’s booths, at events such as the Smarter Summit 2023, attending parties and receptions, participating in Automated Buildings free education panels, and more. Look for the BIG message on handouts and slideshows at these various venues more information about who we are and how you can participate.
Founded five years ago in the Twin Cities, BIG remains entirely volunteer-led. The hallmark of the Building Intelligence Group are in-person meetings hosted by local chapters in major markets. We aim to fill an unmet need by facilitating both local and cross-disciplinary intelligent-building discussions. What started with a single meeting in February 2018 has expanded to 10 cities across the US with more chapters planned to start up in 2023. Starting in March 2020 we began hosting national virtual events. Recordings of past panel discussions and presentations by knowledgeable practitioners can be viewed on-demand on the BIG YouTube channel. We are highly collaborative and supportive of CABA with whom BIG has signed a Memo of Understanding, Monday Live! and C4SB who were featured in last February’s virtual meeting and who are hosting the Smarter Summit at AHR Expo, with James Dice and Nexus Labs who we collaborated with for this webinar on the value of local grassroots collaboration, and many other local and national organizations.
BIG members include consultants, contractors, integrators, architects, engineers (MEPT/FP), and various end-users and service providers involved in Building Automation & Analytics, Infrastructure, Software and Data, Property Technology (Proptech), and Building Information Management (BIM), among other disciplines. BIG seeks to promote open and secure platforms, favoring standardization that encourages community development and maximizes options for building stakeholders. BIG members specialize in solutions that provide tools, data, and insights for total situational awareness, with sensing and monitoring, control, response, and automation.
