There’s a Fork in the road

My last post talked about making magic but the magic is beyond the fork in our road.

AutomatedBuildings.com and Ken Sinclair speak to “The Fork in the Road” Join this LinkedIn discussion.

A completely different way of doing traditional things The next fork in the road leads to a new road paved with cloud-native and artificial intelligence, providing magic with never-before-seen interaction, converged value and simplicity.

Transformative Impact: Kubernetes, CNCF, and Linux are reshaping every aspect of the global economy. Businesses across various sectors are being reinvented through software that leverages these powerful tools.

New magic is not far away. Although we can build and bring legacy systems into this new world, we must understand that taking this fork in the road to a new destination is what we are destined to do. What we’re exploring is a completely different way of achieving what we now do.

Let me present some concepts that would demonstrate what I’m talking about

The simple light bulb interface is now an IP address and now connects directly to a cloud-native software environment. The software is not contained in hardware but in the cloud, which has few limitations. This eliminates a lot of the clutter now provided by our industry. The complexity is in the cloud, soft, not hard.

Let’s all talk about a simple concept of using camera technology to become our new virtual eye sensing. Why install sensors when we can achieve the same by simply looking at our measured variable? Thermography and other evolving concepts allow us a noncontact way of applying our craft to devices using the new fork-in-the-road concepts. Original equipment manufacturers OEM will rapidly make the vision and sound part of their products. Their products will rapidly evolve To become technology companies, not just heavy metal providers. Providing chilled water or hot water or hot air or comfort and IAQ as a service.

The financial models will change and we will be well on our way down the new fork in the road.

How will we get there? By following the cloud-native artificial intelligence folks as they craft new magic industries. Their industries have larger scales, and they can spend the amount of software hours required to make the Magic happen. When the Magic happens, we will build our new building automation industry on this.

Think of Uber or autonomous cars.

It’s a new frontier beyond the next fork in the road, but start your mind thinking now about how you might make this transition.

There is no doubt that our value as an industry is in the assembly of the heavy metal cloud-connected bits that will make the new magic happen.

These cloud-native building blocks are built by others to achieve their magic. Their scale allows amazing magic, but the building blocks and their path are available for us all.

AutomatedBuildings.com and Ken Sinclair, “the storyteller forever,” speak to how we have been here before Teaching the IoT Monster to Ride a Bike. Jan 2018 Our Messy Future https://lnkd.in/gVSEcuTb The IoT Monster has transformed in shape and appearance and has started down a new road paved with cloud-native and artificial intelligence, providing new magic with never-before-seen interaction, converged value and simplicity. Is there an irony that a spooked goose propels us? Big smile, But we are on our journey nonetheless.
