The Interoperable Building Box: Breaking Free with Open-source Connectivity

For too long, buildings have been black boxes—data trapped, owners locked out, unable to control what they rightfully own.

But change is here. The Interoperable Building Box (IBB) is unlocking the doors.

We’ve seen this play out before. Communication was once monopolized by black-box phone systems—until open-source technology like Linux changed everything. Now, the same is happening with buildings. Owners no longer have to accept closed, proprietary systems that limit their control.

What makes IBB different: It’s not owned by one company.

Unlike other solutions that promise interoperability but remain locked within corporate walls, IBB is a community-driven platform. It is built on open standards, shaped by industry collaboration, and designed to put control back in the hands of building owners—where it belongs.

The future is open, but only if we demand it.
More to come. Watch. Listen. The walls are coming down.
