JOHNSON CONTROLS DEDICATES BRENGEL TECHNOLOGY CENTER;

HIGH-TECH SHOWCASE IN DOWNTOWN MILWAUKEE

[an error occurred while processing this directive]MILWAUKEE — (March 21, 2000) — A click of a computer mouse brought the Johnson Controls new Brengel Technology Center to life in a dedication ceremony today.

The new facility provides office space for about 400 Controls business employees and is a working showcase for Johnson Controls technologies. People-friendly features include an occupant satisfaction measurement system, which gives each employee the ability to communicate with the building operator about environmental conditions from his or her desktop. The information is consolidated by zone for the building operator to provide timely feedback.

Brengel Technology Center employees are also empowered by Personal EnvironmentsÒ, a Johnson Controls technology that allows all occupants to individually adjust temperature, lighting, background noise and air flow.

“The Brengel Technology Center is a tribute to the heritage of Johnson Controls. Its classic design and downtown Milwaukee location reflect our company’s rich legacy,” said Brian Stark, president of the Controls business at Johnson Controls. “On the inside, however, this is a high-performance building.”

Named in honor of Fred L. Brengel, Johnson Controls chief executive officer from 1967 to 1988, the Brengel Technology Center is located next to the Controls business headquarters in downtown Milwaukee.

The Brengel Technology Center uses the MetasysÒ Building Automation System to achieve full integration of heating, air conditioning, lighting, security and fire systems. The integration was demonstrated at the dedication ceremony when Milwaukee Mayor John Norquist triggered the exterior lighting with a cell phone and Stark and Brengel lit the interior from a laptop computer.

James H. Keyes, Johnson Controls chairman and chief executive officer, described the $25 million, seven-story, 120,000-square-foot facility as “an investment that defines our future while honoring our past.” He noted that the additional 200 Johnson Controls employees working in the new building will have a positive impact on downtown Milwaukee.

In addition, Norquist announced that the Brengel Technology Center will be among the first facilities to be designated a Green Building by the U.S. Green Building Council’s new rating system.

Open ceilings with painted ductwork throughout the Brengel Technology Center will allow visitors to clearly see all controllers and actuators. A seventh-floor Customer Briefing Center, scheduled to open this summer, will feature interactive presentations and product displays tailored by vertical market, including health care, education, commercial and government.

Other state-of-the-art features in the Brengel Technology Center include:

Nearly 100 miles of structured cabling for voice, data and building automation systems provides flexibility to accommodate changes in products and personnel locations. Utility services uses energy sub-metering, load profiling and cost report generation to better identify savings opportunities. A roof-mounted weather station helps improve the accuracy of energy applications by forecasting cooling system load. Employees are moving into the Brengel Technology Center this month. The facility will be fully occupied by year-end.
