Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. - Expanded "open system" capabilities with BACnet(TM) and OPC(R) options

APOGEE(TM) systems can now communicate with both BACnet and OPC supportive systems and devices through a single operator workstation, thanks to the new release of Insight(R) 3.2 software from Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. Facility management professionals now have these two additional open system options that can be used to meet their systems communication needs.

The BACnet option enables APOGEE system operators to monitor, command and receive alarm information about BACnet devices from Insight 3.2 applications. The new option provides users with merged control of multiple BACnet systems and devices through a single Insight workstation.

The OPC Server communication option allows access to APOGEE point information through an industry standard format and provides transmission of real-time APOGEE over Ethernet to third-party workstations and applications supporting OPC client.

APOGEE is a trademark of Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. BACnet is a trademark of The American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers. OPC is a registered trademark of OPC Foundation.

John J. Grad, President and CEO of Siemens Building Technologies, Inc., (ST) announced today a major restructuring of the company's organization, resulting in the creation of four distinct product divisions. The divisions will continue to sell, install and service their products through the existing field organizations. Siemens Building Technologies will now consist of the HVAC Division, the Fire Division, the Security Division, and the Building Solutions and Services Division.

The HVAC, Fire and Security divisions will provide products, technical support and marketing initiatives through the more than 300 company-owned branch offices and independent distributors. The Building Solutions and Services Division will augment these offerings with integrated and stand-alone building solutions and services by specific customer markets. They will also be responsible for providing the field organization with standardized processes for both installation and service support.

"We expect to be the most responsive supplier when it comes to meeting changing customer requirements," says Grad. "The four division structure will give us focused management teams with enough management autonomy to anticipate and respond to specific customer needs," he adds.

Siemens Building Technologies is a world leader in providing facility performance solutions for comfort, life safety, security, and energy efficiency. The group employs more than 30,000 people in over 100 countries and is a subsidiary of Siemens A -- the $66 billion pioneer in industrial and electronic technology.
