ICONICS Releases 3rd Generation OPC Productivity Tools and Rapid Development Toolkit
Rapid Development OPC Toolkit helps create OPC Servers for Windows CE
Interkama '99 -October 18 , 1999 - ICONICS, a leader in the development of OLE for Process Control (OPC) technology, announced the release of its third generation OPC Toolkit. This new OPC toolkit supports the OPC Foundation Data Access 2.0, Alarm and Events OPC 1.0 specifications.
[an error occurred while processing this directive]The ICONICS OPC Toolkits and productivity tools enable users to create mission critical, high quality, production grade OPC Servers and OPC enabled ActiveX controls in just one day. The new OPC Toolkit includes several examples for creating OPC Servers for Windows NT, 95, 98 and CE. ICONICS was one of the first companies to release Toolkits for the original OPC specifications.
"ICONICS is committed to leading the industry in developing a highly flexible, OPC rapid development toolkit that utilizes state-of-the-art technology, while promoting interoperability between multiple vendors by development of the OPC specification," said Russ Agrusa, ICONICS President. According to Agrusa, "ICONICS has created a patent pending ActiveX Toolkit and OPC toolkits to enable users to take advantage of this new open standard".
The non-profit OPC Foundation created the OPC 2.0 Specification to foster greater integration and interoperability between business applications, field devices and automation applications. The Data Access 2.0 specification has several minor enhancements, which provide improvements to the custom interface and ActiveX OLE Automation Interface to the OPC 1.0a specification.
ICONICS has been involved with the OPC standardization effort since the OPC Foundation inception and has recently provided the official sample code for the newly released Alarm and Events Specification, which the OPC Foundation has provided to its member companies. According to ICONICS chief OPC Architect, Jim Luth, "The newest ICONICS OPC Toolkit provides the most advanced technological tools for creating OPC Servers for Windows NT, 95, 98 and Windows CE. Using the unique OPC Rapid Development Wizards makes creating OPC Servers the fastest method for developing OPC products in the industry".
Several other OPC productivity tools are included as part of the OPC Toolkit. Dr. DCOM, and OPC DataSpy provide additional OPC analysis and trouble shooting tools for rapidly diagnosing DCOM and network configuration issues. Dr. DCOM is an extremely useful and time saving networking utility to help users with trouble shoot and setup DCOM configurations. Development and system commissioning times are dramatically reduced with Dr. DCOM at your side. OPC DataSpy is an OPC 1.0 and 2.0 test client, which can help connect to and provide valuable OPC Server information. OPC DataSpy supports all three OPC foundation standards including, Data Access, Alarm & Events and HDA.
Dr. DCOM and OPC DataSpy can be download from the ICONICS Web site at www.iconics.com.
