President Bush sees Energy Savings Technology in Action at Camp Pendleton
[an error occurred while processing this directive]San Diego, CA - (July 9, 2001) - President George W. Bush recently observed a demonstration of the Johnson Controls UNITY system during a visit to Camp Pendleton in California. The President was in the state to meet with state government officials concerning California's energy issues. UNITY, designed and developed by Electronic Systems USA, allows seamless integration of major manufacturers' HVAC, fire/life safety, and security systems into a single operating system.
Camp Pendleton's energy saving results from the Federal energy mandate were presented to President Bush. The demonstration included a viewing of Camp Pendleton's water system reservoir levels and commanding pumps, and a display of a building air handler unit with occupancy times, set point and commandability of the unit. The instantaneous megawatts reading from the Haybarn Canyon energy graph was discussed.
The results of the May 24th load shed program mandated by the U.S. Department of Energy were also presented. The load shed test showed that demand decreased more than two megawatts of power during one and one-half hour period. The Johnson Controls on-site project manager at Camp Pendleton completed the demonstration by navigating through UNITY menus and screens, and answered questions. The Johnson Controls contract at Camp Pendleton is for the upgrade, expansion, and maintenance of the energy management system throughout the base. The project uses the Johnson Controls multi-vendor UNITY front-end system to integrate existing Honeywell Delta 1000 systems and installation of Johnson Controls LONWORKSÒ based NexSysÒ DDC system in 800 buildings.
Camp Pendleton, located in Southern California, is one of the largest military bases in the world. The base, encompassing 17 miles of California coastline, is home to more than 40,000 marines and sailors, and is considered the world's prime amphibious training base.
