The Data revolution has come about due to the huge increase in the amount of information we’re able to capture and analyze from an ever growing number of sources. Data is transforming everything; especially data in real time.  Data can change the way companies in every industry do business and assess and manage operational performance. Corporations are directing executives and managers to implement or improve upon organizational initiatives such as Sustainability, Energy Management, Maintenance, Operation Management, Capital Improvements, Project Management and Facility Management.

However, when it comes to data, most organizations do not have a unified data management plan for their building(s). What passes for a “data management plan” consists of a database associated with building equipment such as HVAC and maybe a few of the other systems and equipment that make up the building operational assets.

Data planning takes a look at all the operational data and information required in order to manage a building’s performance.  Identify the data and information that different people and groups involved with the building’s performance need to perform their work. Much of the data will be monitoring points on building systems but some data needed may be in business systems or other systems outside of facility management or even outside the organization. Identify where the data exists; how it must be accessed, collected, how it will be exchanged.

When it comes to these initiatives, they require management tools and a platform that provides accurate data collection and flows from multiple sources, ensuring the data’s integrity, availability, and security. There needs to be a means to analyze and visualize the data to assist in the business decision processes. These are essential to successfully select and capitalize on new generations of advanced third-party energy and operational technologies and applications such as Visualization & Reporting, Fault Detection & Diagnosis, Predictive Maintenance, and Continuous Improvement & Optimization, to name a few.

In addition, there is what is being referred to as data socialization, a term that is being heard more frequently. As Bernard Marr, a contributor to Forbes and author on big data, analytics, metrics and improving business performance put it, “It’s an attempt to tackle the ongoing process of making sure the right data is in front of the right person – a decision maker – at the right time. Get this wrong, and despite all of the intentions it is likely that your strategy for data-driven transformation will become one of the many projects that fail.”

For fully interoperable data management, analytics and visualization there are a number of technical domains that must be integrated into a comprehensive solution to be effective. These domains can be broadly broken into systems, equipment and devices, and energy consumption and operational domains. The integration of these creates significant challenges due to different protocols, different performance indicators, different technologies and applications, and scalability.

Without question, the challenge of creating interoperable data management, analytics and visualization provide a great opportunity to every organization.

Meeting these challenges is the Connexxion® Platform, an interoperable, scalable, secure, data management, analytics, and visualization platform. With Connexxion®, disparate data sources are transformed, unified, technologies are integrated, heterogeneous networks are bridged, legacy and best-in-class technologies are seamlessly integrated, and user-centric applications can be rapidly deployed.

Connexxion® combines connectivity, a powerful analytic engine, the Cloud, data extraction and collection, integration and application management for real-time, operational and energy information generated from building systems, equipment and enterprise management applications.

Connexxion® allows users to pick and choose the right application(s) and the applications they want and drives outcomes by enabling users to capitalize on accurate and concise data relating to the performance of facilities, building systems and equipment assets, all within a user-friendly dashboard environment.

The Connexxion® Platform is how organizations are assessing and managing operational data and performance to implement or improve their Sustainability, Energy Management, Maintenance, Operation Management, Capital Improvements, Project Management and Facility Management initiatives.  Want to know more?
