Sedona Framework Developers meet at Niagara Summit 2016
May 2016 - A group of Sedona Framework developers held their second organizational meeting during Niagara Summit 2016. Companies in attendance for the second meeting included Ontrol, EasyIO, GC5, SysMik/PhoenixContact, BASSG, Solidyne and Contemporary Controls representing companies that produce Sedona devices or Sedona software. These companies are interested in making Sedona an open control language while encouraging the sharing of hardware independent custom designed Sedona components with the Sedona community. The inaugural meeting of this same group was held during Light+Building show this past March.
Of immediate importance was to determine Tridium’s position in supporting Sedona in Niagara 4. Although Sedona Framework was developed by Tridium several years ago under an academic free license, Sedona tool and driver support only exists in Niagara 3.7 and 3.8, other vendors have produced their own Sedona tools. Tridium arranged for a meeting room for the Sedona developers and attended part of the meeting responding to the group’s questions. As a Sedona tool, Niagara 4 Workbench will not support Sedona device programming. However, in terms of a Sedona driver in Niagara 4, Tridium will assist the Sedona developers if they intend to develop such a driver. For smaller IoT devices, Tridium is interested in developing Edge technology to their existing Niagara 4 architecture and welcomes the Sedona developers to become active in the process.
The meeting concluded with resolutions to create a legal non-profit organization and open up membership to all those in the Sedona Community – developers and integrators. A website would be created for this new organization and a Google Group has been established. If you would like to be invited into the Google Group, contact Bennet Levine at blevine@ccontrols.com.
Contemporary Controls to
Display Open Building Automation Products at IBcon 2016
By Derek Schou, Marketing Communications Specialist at Contemporary Controls
Contemporary Controls will be displaying building automation products - all built on open standards - at the upcoming IBcon 2016 in Silicon Valley on June 21 -23. IBcon has grown to become an important forum for leading edge discussion on intelligent buildings. Open standards such as BACnet, Sedona Framework, and OpenVPN are important in the evolution of intelligent buildings. Products on display include a low-cost BACnet supervisor, Sedona Framework field controllers and remote access solutions based upon OpenVPN.

The BAScontrol Series is a line of BACnet unitary controllers complying with the B-ASC device profile that support both BACnet/IP and Sedona Framework (SOX) protocol. Also on display are our BASrouters, which route from BACnet/IP to BACnet MS/TP facilitating communication between the management and field levels.
Contemporary Controls offers two solutions for remote monitoring – one a cloud based VPN solution and the other a client/server VPN solution that makes a direct connection over the Internet.
With the cloud-based VPN solution, the
Contemporary Controls’ hosted BAScloudVPN server provides the critical
connection between two VPN clients – one installed on the user’s PC and
the other permanently installed at the job site. With the direct
connection option, the OpenVPN server is hosted at the systems
integrators’ place of business requiring only an Internet connection.
Contemporary Controls products will be on display at booth #515. We look forward to visiting with you.
