Engineers Award Company's Hardware for its Technological Advancement, Market Impact, Vision, and Creativity
Temecula, CA - February 02, 2010 - Opto 22's SNAP PAC
family of Wired+Wireless programmable automation controllers and I/O has won two
of the automation industry's most prestigious honors-Control Engineering
magazine's 2010 Engineers' Choice Award and Design World Magazine's 2010
Leadership in Engineering Award.
Control Engineering, published by Reed Business Information, has a circulation
of over 86,000 North American subscribers. Russian, Middle Eastern, and multiple
Asian and European editions of the magazine help make it one of the world's
foremost trade publications covering the control, instrumentation, and
automation industries. The Engineers' Choice Awards acknowledge products for
service to the industry, technological advancement, and market impact. This
year's winners were selected from 96 new products in 29 categories. Over 600
votes were cast, with Opto 22's SNAP PAC Wired+Wireless hardware winning in the
category designated for wireless controllers and I/O. The selection is Opto 22's
ninth such award from Control Engineering, including honors for its SNAP-PAC-R2
rack-mounted programmable automation controller, the SNAP-PAC-S2 standalone
controller, and most recently, for its intelligent I/O for Allen-Bradley Systems
(IO4AB.)
Design World magazine is one of the leading trade publications for OEM machine
builders, design engineers, and engineering managers. Its Leadership in
Engineering Awards recognize products and individuals that demonstrate
exceptional vision, trustworthiness, integrity, honesty, service, and
creativity. Recognition for Opto 22's SNAP PAC Wired+Wireless hardware gives
Opto 22 its second Leadership in Engineering Award. The company was previously
honored for its PAC Project software suite.

For each of these awards, the SNAP PAC Wired+Wireless hardware was specifically
selected for being a powerful, versatile, and unique I/O and controller
combination that works like a laptop. Users can plug an Ethernet cable in for
traditional networking, or switch on the Wi-Fi radio for wireless networking. No
additional I/O hardware is required to use wireless, and all functions work the
same whether wired or wireless. The product's technological merits include
support for several standard industrial networking protocols, including Modbus®/TCP,
EtherNet/IP(tm), FTP, SNMP, and SMTP. The hardware's innovative design and
unique product features-particularly its dual (wired plus wireless)
functionality and its support for three of the major 802.11 variants (a, b, and
g)-were also acknowledged for giving automation professionals unparalleled
industrial networking options and making it cheaper and easier for them to
design, build, and modify control systems.
Control Engineering's Engineers' Choice Award winners will be showcased in a
printed supplement included with the February issue. For more information, go to
