LONDON and BOSTON, June 24, 2008 – Hotech Edge, a leader in wireless building management networks, has developed and implemented a range of innovative wire-free building security and energy conservation applications for the hospitality industry based on Ember’s ZigBee networking technology.
Hotech Edge’s G-Mesh networks cover entire buildings in a wireless mesh infrastructure for real-time online management of digital guest safes, door-locks, climate control and other devices. The ZigBee-enabled system improves guest services, automates building management, reduces operational and energy costs, and creates new revenue opportunities for hotels and student residences.
Ember’s industry leading ZigBee platform has been extensively deployed for networking many devices in hospitality applications including lighting control, climate control, door locks, media control, mini bars, drapes and safes.
G-Mesh has been deployed in over a dozen London properties – including large well-known institutions such as the London School of Economics – with further installations underway across the UK and Europe.
“These large scale, proven deployments demonstrate ZigBee’s excellent suitability for wirelessly networking a variety of devices in buildings,” said Geoff Wales, Hotech Edge chief executive. “Ember-enabled G-Mesh networks substantially reduce build- and fit-out costs for hotels. They enhance building security systems, while also saving money and cutting carbon emissions through intelligent energy control.”
The G-Mesh system uses Ember’s EM250 ZigBee system-on-chip (SoC) and EmberZNet PRO software platform, which supports the ZigBee PRO Feature Set.
EmberZNet PRO’s high level of security, advanced device addressing and inherent reliability has allowed Hotech Edge to fast track installations of G-Mesh systems through simplified commissioning procedures, resulting in reduced overall costs and guest interruptions.
Added advantages of the latest ZigBee PRO installations include:
extending the power saving benefits of sleepy end devices
halving the number of data controllers and mesh routers
negligible network latency over several hops in the mesh
scaling to hundreds and potentially thousands of nodes
