Brookfield Office Properties chooses global specialist in energy
management Schneider Electric to provide tenants with increased
knowledge and control of energy usage
DALLAS – May 14, 2012 – Schneider Electric, a global specialist in
energy management, today announced that Brookfield Office Properties,
owner, developer and manager of premier office properties globally, has
selected Schneider Electric’s StruxureWare™ Energy Operation Online to
be installed at the One World Financial Center property in New York,
N.Y., as well as at other Brookfield buildings around Manhattan. This
installation is in addition to the Schneider Electric tenant
submetering solutions that were already in place in the building. The
installation enables tenants to access their energy usage on any
Internet-connected device, via a standard Web browser, allowing them to
take control in saving energy and reducing utility costs.
Energy Operation Online is a web-hosted service that provides a tool
for users to manage their energy dilemma. The combination of energy
cost, sustainability pressures, and demand-side management contribute
to the energy dilemma. Turning this dilemma into an opportunity
requires a tool that provides visibility to energy consumption, and how
its use impacts costs and sustainability goals. Energy Operation Online
does this through an intuitive web-interface, with reporting and
alarming capabilities suited to energy management professionals,
accounting staff and everyday energy consumers.
One World Financial Center is a 40-story, LEED Existing Building (EB):
Operations & Maintenance Gold Certified, Class A office building,
located in Lower Manhattan. With 1.7 million square feet of rentable
space, it is one of New York’s premier business addresses, housing
Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, Willis, and Fidelity Investments,
among other corporate firms.
“We selected Schneider Electric because of our longstanding
relationship with the company and its industry-leading expertise in
energy management,” said Richard Bachia, senior vice president, U.S.
Operations of Brookfield Office Properties. “Our goal was to not only
make One World Financial Center a greener building, but also to empower
our tenants to proactively manage energy and easily uncover
opportunities to reduce their carbon footprint.”
He added: “Before installing this solution, our tenants were unable to
see their individual energy use or sustainability impact. Our clients
can now validate the effectiveness of their own energy conservation
measures, while highlighting how and where inefficient energy use
impacts their utility spend.”
Branded within the organization as the Brookfield Tenant Energy Portal,
Energy Operation Online also gives tenants at One World Financial
Center the ability to:

• View and manage their carbon footprint, report on CO2 emissions, and set targets for reduction.
• Profile energy use and uncover a better
understanding of usage patterns, and determine costs for comparison and
benchmarking.
• Set up alarm thresholds that assist with tracking building and tenant energy use in real time.
• Manage energy use during peak hours to control costs.
• Leverage timely energy information for more intelligent building operations.
“As a result of smart energy management practices, organizations can
reduce energy consumption in buildings by up to 30 percent,” said James
Potach, senior vice president, Energy Solutions, Schneider Electric.
“Brookfield Office Properties recognized the potential for energy
savings within its facility and the benefits that would impact their
tenants’ bottom lines. Brookfield Office Properties is the type of
forward-thinking company that we love to partner with, to help green
their buildings; in this case by empowering and involving tenants to
proactively participate in energy efficiency and sustainability
efforts, with Energy Operation Online.”
