How The Internet of Things Will Fight Climate Change He sees Tesla as targeting climate change — the cars will connect to the solar systems and home storage batteries, so “every individual is their own utility,” and less carbon is emitted. Not what you’d expect from a car company.

Continuous improvement for IoT through AI / Continuous learning  In reality, especially for IoT, it is not like once an analytics model is built, it will give the results with same accuracy till the end of time. Data pattern changes over the time which makes it absolutely important to learn from new data and improve/recalibrate the models to get correct result. Below article explain this phenomenon of continuous improvement in analytics for IoT.

Fundamentally, the IoT is the connection of uniquely identifiable electronic devices using Internet “data plumbing,” including Internet Protocol (IP), Web services, and cloud computing. The flood of new technology can be overwhelming and will inherently create a desire to drive new initiatives.  Managing this explosive growth can be accomplished efficiently for the most prolific industrial networks, EtherNet/IP CIP and PROFINET, using CISCO’s Industrial Network Director software. Adopting a network management tool is important with the accelerating growth of IP connected devices.

LONDON: The COP22 climate conference, held in Marrakech earlier this month, marked a transition from high-level commitments to concrete actions to tackle the effects of climate change quickly, effectively and at scale. Accelerating adoption of Energy Efficiency (EE) technologies, and LED lighting in particular, have been identified as key elements in achieving the ambitious commitments under the Paris Agreement and transitioning to a low carbon global economy.

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) recently published a white paper that discusses new requirements that help reduce energy consumption in commercial buildings. NEMA WD ARCP 1-2016 Automatic Receptacle Control to Meet ASHRAE 90.1-2010 and California (CA) Title 24 explains the controlled receptacle requirement now appearing within non-residential energy codes, as well as a summary of typical application settings.  Standards such as CA Title 24-2013 and ASHRAE 90.1-2010 (and 2013) now require that at least 50 percent of all receptacles in designated spaces of a building be controllable, i.e., automatically able to turn themselves OFF and ON as needed.

Next Generation Innovation, young guns Rob Allen and Brad White catch up with Lindsay Baker from Comfy. Topics include: How Comfy is redefining how Smart Buildings use social media and a unique version of crowd sourcing to make buildings more energy efficient, how women are able to make smart buildings even smarter, and what it’s like to be a venture capitalist funded company. Great interview and very insightful take aways.

On November 17, Tesla and SolarCity shareholders finish voting to approve Tesla’s purchase of SolarCity (disclosure: I own stock in SCTY). By combining the companies, Musk is convinced that he can transform mobility and energy:“The acquisition of SolarCity will create the world’s only integrated sustainable energy company, from energy generation to storage to transportation. Just as Tesla has demonstrated the superiority of electric vehicles, the solar roof and Powerwall 2 will transform energy generation and storage.”

“Having IT expertise without OT (industry) expertise doesn’t work – neither does OT without IT.”  That was the main refrain of Don Rogers, Business Development Manager, Manufacturing Engineering for World Wide Technology. While attending the 2016 Cisco Live! Conference in Las Vegas, this July I was fortunate to be introduced to Rogers and WWT, a company that represents a new breed of system integrators helping companies converge IT and OT.  Don and I sat down to discuss that convergence and its importance throughout multiple industries.
