Throughout the COVID pandemic, the
Monday Live! Group, working with the Coalition for Smarter Buildings
has been actively working to identify barriers to the broad adoption of
smarter buildings in the U.S. and globally.
A key work product of this work was the creation of the Smarter Stack,
an open-source communication framework for practitioners in the
industry to be able to consistently map products, technologies, and
issues necessary for the successful deployment of technologies to make
buildings smarter. The Smarter Stack is now being used widely by many
organizations from vendors, channels, and building owners.
You can access the stack at this link.
Two important realizations emerged from the Smarter Stack.
First, for everything depicted on the Smarter Stack to work
successfully at scale, all of the systems have to be able to
interoperate with each other regardless of vendor, protocol, or when
the system is installed in the building’s lifecycle.
Second, the industry lacks any kind of framework for this kind of
system interoperability and lacks a specification for how these systems
should interoperate with each other.
Out of this realization, a new project was initiated late in 2021 to
create a specification framework, loosely modeled on the CSI Division
25.
The project, dubbed Div 2525 aims to create a path for the industry to
adopt an interoperable framework for all of the systems depicted on the
Smarter Stack.
This month sees the release of the first work product from Div 2525.
The Vision document is specifically created for building owners and
decision makers, for them to understand why interoperability is such a
critical requirements for their buildings.
