Corporate
and government interest and support for sustainability and “ESG” related
policies (Environmental Social and Governance) is growing across all segments
of the CRE industry. ESG issues are increasingly seen by shareholders as an
indicator of a company’s future success and are now a core component of most
annual reports by public companies. Key elements of the “E” portion include
energy efficiency initiatives, and Greenhouse Gas Emission tracking and reporting.
Our approach to help facility owners and operators address the need to
track, report and improve GhG/Carbon performance is the addition of a
simple, easy to use, App that converts energy meter data to GhG equivalents
with a few mouse clicks.
The SkySpark GhG App allows the user to lookup Emission Source conversion
factors published by government agencies, such as the US EPA eGrid service and
similar resources around the globe, and apply them to meter data to instantly
convert that data into GhG equivalents. The App then provides a range of
visualizations of the results as shown below:
For locales where online conversion factors are not available, the App
allows for definition of site-specific factors.
High Resolution GhG Data
The GhG App calculates GhG emissions directly from metered data, whether
that data was acquired in real time from smart meters, submeters connected to a
BMS or utility webservices, or imported history data in CSV, text, Excel® and
other file formats. This means GhG equivalents are calculated and presented with
the same resolution as meter data. This enables organizations to visualize
their emissions for any time period, from a single interval, a day, the whole
year, or any range in between providing the data needed for reporting, but also
the detail and insight needed for near real-time analysis.
We saw
that adding the capability to calculate, track and report GhG metrics in
SkySpark® was a logical extension of our continually growing suite of
energy-focused applications that help building owners and operators improve
performance and meet society’s critical sustainability goals and move to
data-driven facility management.
