New Paris, Indiana In an effort to further the march to ward intelligent and integrated facilities, KMC Controls has announced its support of this year’s BuilConn event as a Platinum Sponsor. The four day show will be held in Dallas, Texas at The Adam’s Mark Dallas Hotel and Conference Center from March 21-24. KMC is one of only two companies to sponsor at this level. BuilConn is geared towards those interested in learning more about building and facilities management and focuses on integration, open systems, and new industry technology.
“This is our second year as a sponsor of BuilConn, and we have already seen a bona fide value in our participation,” commented KMC President and CEO, Richard Newberry. He continues, “This is one of the few forums that provide the industry with opportunities to discuss the technologies that are leading us toward truly integrated building systems. I am proud to say that our corporate contributions can help make this information more readily available to those who seek it.”
Rather than focusing on one specific technology, BuilConn offers several distinct tracks, filled with technology and market considerations. This approach provides attendees with a menu of choices and enables them to become familiar with various approaches. In particular, KMC has adopted the BACnet BAS protocol and enterprise, web-enabled software to address the challenges of open systems building integration.

A New Vision at KMC Controls Earns Industry-wide Recognition
Irving, Texas & New Paris, IN -- The Buildy nominations are in. Nominated by their peers, the finalists in each of the four categories for the 2005 Buildy Awards have been chosen. Designed to increase awareness of the benefits of whole building integration and honor successful implementation strategies, the Buildy Awards Program celebrates the North American organizations and individuals who best support the vision of networked buildings.
The winners of the 2005 Buildy Awards will be selected by the BuilConn attendees during the Building Systems Expo on Wednesday, March 23. Ballots can be cast during either the afternoon or evening Expo sessions.
Within the four award categories -- Vision, Best Integration Project, Best Product, and Best Building -- the finalists are an interesting mix representing all facets of the integration process.
The Vision award will be presented to the industry professional that best demonstrates a vision of whole building integration and interoperability through advocacy, promotion, educational, and training endeavors. Within this category, KMC President and CEO, Richard Newberry, has been nominated for the 2005 Buildy Award.
Ben Dorsey, Director of Communications at KMC, noted: “I am often approached about the major, market-driven transformation this company has experienced in recent years and I credit Mr. Newberry for the turnaround.” He continues, “This transformation, in turn, has added another powerful voice to the call for product interoperability, system integration, and sustainable buildings.”
An internal transformation began with an in-depth strategic planning process that took senior management on the road, visiting distribution partners and end users across several vertical markets. Repeatedly, the staff heard desires for interoperability as well as for control systems that could interact with other building systems. Resulting product introductions occurred at light speed.
Mr. Newberry then led his company in securing relationships with new partner organizations committed to growth and educating both the new and existing partner organizations in emerging technologies. The KMC training initiative subsequently expanded scope significantly both in content and delivery.
He also directed that KMC financial assets be used to sponsor industry events that further the goals of interoperability and integration, as well as sustainability. These corporate dollars alleviate or replace individual costs associated with learning new technologies.
As a result, the voice of KMC now echoes through committee meetings, sounds in industry events, educates KMC distribution partners, and permeates the company itself—reflecting the vision of Richard A. Newberry.
Buildy Award winners will be announced at the BuilConn Awards Gala, Thursday, March 24, in Dallas, Texas.
