Carbon emission management, renewable energy projects
to be showcased
PHOENIX - (November 10, 2009) – Johnson Controls, Inc. (NYSE: JCI), the global
leader in providing energy efficiency solutions for buildings, will highlight
the need for facility owners and managers to take decisive and aggressive
actions to make existing buildings throughout the world more sustainable at
Greenbuild 2009, November 10-13 in Phoenix.
Under the theme – Efficiency Now, it’s never been more important – Johnson
Controls will showcase energy efficient tools, technologies and case studies
through customer testimonials at booth number 3344 in the Phoenix Convention
Center. The company will highlight its leading Energy and Emissions Management
System, Metasys Sustainability Manager™ software, renewable energy projects and
its progress in the credentialing of Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design (LEED) professionals at the show.
From a small net zero-energy office to one of the most well known buildings in
the world, Johnson Controls continues to emphasize the importance of energy
efficiency as the most effective path to more sustainable facilities.
“Energy efficiency is a critical element in improving the sustainability of new
and existing buildings,” said Clay Nesler, vice president, Global Energy and
Sustainability, Johnson Controls. “Given increasing pressure to reduce energy
costs, limit carbon emissions and increase property values, energy efficiency
has never been more important to building owners, communities and society as a
whole.”
Throughout the week, Johnson Controls will highlight the latest news,
technologies and projects that are creating more energy efficient environments.
They include:
• Techno-Commissioning Drives Energy Efficiency – To achieve sustained energy
efficiency results, the company will demonstrate Metasys Enterprise
Sustainability Manager, a key element of successful techno-commissioning
projects.
• Investment in LEED Accreditation – Johnson Controls has nearly 800 LEED
credentialed professionals worldwide. The company will also demonstrate Green
Compass v3, an updated version of the popular Web-based tool used to assess a
building’s sustainability using the LEED rating system.
• Benefits of Retrofitting Existing Buildings – Johnson Controls is helping The
Empire State Building reduce energy consumption by up to 38 percent. Clay Nesler,
vice president, Global Energy and Sustainability, and Paul Rode, project
executive for Empire State Building, will participate in a panel titled High
Profile Green Operations – Marquee LEED for Existing Building Projects, on
Thursday, November 12 at the Phoenix Convention Center. The panel will summarize
the replicable design process, provide implementation details as well as lessons
learned. Also, Integrated Design Associates, a Johnson Controls customer, will
present Zero Energy Buildings: Case Studies in Accessible Technologies For a
More Sustainable Main Street, on Wednesday, November 11.

• Growth of Photovoltaic Solar Power – Over the past three years Johnson
Controls has significantly expanded its renewable energy solutions business.
This growth will be showcased through customer case studies from municipalities
to schools across the country.
• Carbon Emission Reduction – Recognized as a market leader in Enterprise Carbon
Accounting software by Groom Energy Solutions, the company offers Energy
Emissions Management System, a Web-based tool used to inventory, track, manage
and forecast energy use and carbon emissions for more than 5,000 buildings
around the globe.
• 2009 BELL Award Winner – The company will recognize an outstanding leader in
the building industry as the second annual Building Efficiency Lifetime
Leadership (BELL) Award recipient at its seventh annual Green Tie Affair, a
customer appreciation event on Thursday, November 12.
• Green Policy Discussion – Mark Wagner, vice president, Government Relations,
will be a part of a panel discussion on Thursday, November 12, to discuss recent
developments in federal policy that directly impact green building practitioners
and consumers.
