Sinclair: Why talk about Intelligent Buildings now?
Ehrlich: The concept of Intelligent Buildings has been around for a long time, but recent changes in technology, energy costs, new codes and standards make implementing an Intelligent Building not only possible – but compelling.
Sinclair: What exactly is the Building Intelligence Tour?
Ehrlich: The Building Intelligence Tour is a series of educational seminars that help building owners, consulting engineers, integrators and suppliers understand the benefits, technology and solutions involved in Intelligent Buildings. The Building Intelligence Group produces these seminars both locally as well as at major events such as AHR.
Sinclair: What is Trane’s interest in sponsoring the Tour?
Wilcox: Building owners and can profit from a better understanding of Intelligent Buildings. This tour is a valuable, non-proprietary educational way for owners to learn how to lower operating costs without compromising occupant comfort. It’s also a way for consultants and contractors to differentiate themselves as Intelligent Building experts and improve their own volume and profits. Along with GE Security and Eagle Technology, we recognize that intelligent solutions are a key to improving building performance.

Wilcox: We’ve held three, successful, events this fall. Participants at each event have said that they’ll be able to take full advantage of their leanings on current projects – which is ultimately what we want them to be able to do.
Sinclair: What’s ahead for the Tour in 2006?
Ehrlich: We are very excited about 2006. We will be doing a special full day Building Intelligence Tour program at AHR in January. This event will bring in a number of experts and will allow us to not only cover the why and how but also to touch on some of the great work being done within groups such as the CABA Intelligent and Integrated Buildings Council. We also have a number of sponsors who will be conducting local seminars in 2006. Trane has scheduled 12 events next year in cities around North America and we have other events that will be announced soon.
Sinclair: Who should attend; and how can they get registration info?
Ehrlich: The seminar is designed for facility managers, consulting engineers, contractors and suppliers. We offer seminars that range from an hour long overview at a conference to full day in depth symposiums.
